blessed but vulnerable

Although blessed, both Cabo Verde and saint Vincent and the Grenadines are alarmingly vulnerable today. Small island nations face similar disadvantages because of their size: a narrow range of resources, excessive dependence on international trade, food imports to respond to poverty, lack of economies of scale for transport investment. Vulnerability to external shocks, isolation and fragility of island ecosystems, high cost of technology imports. In addition, natural disasters and climate change are of special concern to small islands because of their dependence on agriculture and tourism which are particularly vulnerable to natural and environmental disasters.

Thousands of family livelihoods depend on the effects of climate change in the near future in Cabo Verde, like these salt evaporation ponds in Pedra de Lume. Something to remember the next time you’re shaking it over your chips…

The Isles of the Blessed

This year, OIKO LOGICA has been blessed in the Fortunate Isles.  Cabo Verde is an "island country", a spanning archipielago of 10 islands. In these Islands of the Blessed, heroes and other favored mortals in Greek mythology were received by the gods into a winterless blissful paradise.  These islands were destiny for those, according to gods, who had chosen to be reincarnated three times, those who deserved to entrance to the Elysian Fields all three times. Fortunately to us, this was our first time to entrance blissful paradise. Not sure if we will reincarnate twice again to make it to the Elysian fields,

Hairuna or The Land of The Blessed

Hairouna means "The Land of the Blessed" in the native Carib language. The Caribs, lived in the island before the arrival of european settlement. They mixed with enslaved Africans, who had shipwrecked or had escaped from Barbados and became known as Garifuna or Black Caribs.

New Project in Saint Vincent and The Grenadines

"The overall objective of this consultancy is to develop an integrated, gender-sensitive, and results-based National Poverty Reduction Strategy (NPRS) inclusive of a poverty map (PM) to assist the Government of Saint Vincent and The Grenadines in reducing poverty and improving human development outcomes".

Ptolomeus Ecumene

Ptolomeus' Ecumene is a reconstruction of Geographia, a compilation of thousands of references to various parts of the old world during second century EC, including coordinates which allowed cartographers to reconstruct Ptolemy's world view.  Maps, were created centuries later aggregating information and using for the first time longitudinal and latitudinal lines and the specifying of terrestrial locations by celestial observations.

It was only in the 15th century when global coordinate system revolutionized scientific world.

oikéō

OIKO LOGICA stands for "common sense of the habitat". The word OIKO comes from OIKOUMENE Ecumene, a term originally used in the Greco-Roman world to refer to what back then was the inhabited universe.  Oikouménē  in old greek is oikéō, "to inhabit", the "inhabited world". The Barbarians inhabited the rest of the world.  OIKO LOGICA was born to make sense of the inhabited world, even though today, it seems that our planet is much more inhabited by Barbarians...
